ALABAMA REGISTRY OF INTERPRETERS
FOR THE DEAF
See information below from Chris McGaha, President, regarding the meeting scheduled for August 29, 2020:
"During this time, your board has been meeting and working to do what is best for you and our community. When we announced the cancellation of the conference on July 23, we also announced our business meeting would be virtual on August 29.
Unfortunately, we overlooked one of our bylaws related to meetings of the members. Article VI (Below) states that written notice must be given to the membership at least 45 days prior to the meeting. Our notice on July 23 was not at least 45 days.
Therefore, the business meeting scheduled for tomorrow August 29 at 9 am is being rescheduled to Saturday, October 24, 2020, from 9 am to 11 am.
The zoom link, business meeting information, and election information will be sent out closer to the October meeting.
Thank you for your understanding and we apologize for any confusion.
NOMINATION SLATE: The nomination slate compiled by the 2020-2022 ALRID Board Nominating Committee can be found at www.alrid.org/2020. Nominations can also be made during the business meeting for all positions available.
ELECTION PROCESS: To ensure only active voting members are voting during the meeting, we will be using a third-party website: www.electionrunner.com. Your individual voter ID is your first initial and your last name. Your key has been uploaded as your 5 digit zip code. After you log in, it should automatically bring up the ballot for which you need to vote. You will select the candidate you want to vote for, then submit your vote. Boom! Done. Election runner will only be open during the business meeting. Below is an example of how I would log in:
VOTER ID: dwagoner
**Please note memberships must be current at the start of the business meeting to qualify for voting rights. If you are unsure about your membership, please log into www.alrid.org to check your membership status.
2020-2022 Board Nominations
Your 2020-2022 ALRID Board Nomination Committee has been working hard during this pandemic. While we are sad we can't all be together to elect and welcome the new board, we are pleased to announce the below slate. Due to the current state of affairs, we requested a video, transcript, and headshot from each nominee. You can click on each nominee name to see any information they submitted.
Per the ALRID Bylaws (Article IV, Section 5: Qualifications) all candidates for the board shall have been members in good standing for at least 12 months immediately prior to candidacy. Please note that while we had multiple nominations for certain positions, the slate below has not only met the qualifications, but also accepted their nomination via email. For more information or if you have any questions, please contact Diana Wagoner, 2020-2022 Nomination Committee Chair at firstname.lastname@example.org.
And now, without further ado, it is our pleasure to present your 2020-2022 ALRID Nomination Slate:
The following board positions did not have a nominee who met the criteria and thus we do not have any nominations for these positions at this time:
Thank you for your time and attention.
Your 2020-2022 ALRID Board Nomination Committee,
Unfortunately, after several meetings, looking at feedback from the RID Board, lawyers, and the Department of Public Health,
the ALRID board has decided to cancel the 2020 Biennial Conference due to the ongoing pandemic.
If you have already registered, you will be receiving an email outlining our refund process for this event.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact us.
Our General Business Meeting will be held virtually on October 24, 2020.
The ALRID Board wants to thank Lisa Gould, Conference Chair, and the Conference Planning Committee for all their hard work during the planning of the 2020 Biennial Conference. The hours, blood, sweat, and tears you put into a fantastic weekend did not go un-noticed.
We appreciate you all for everything you did!
Mary Lou Bingham
Lifetime Achievement Award
"Mama Lou" wanted interpreters to "Get with the Deaf". What better way to honor the achievement of an interpreter who models what it means to be a true Deaf Ally than a Lifetime Achievement award in her honor?
Nominations can be submitted by using this google form.
For more information, see the video/transcript below.
Hello ALRID members! We are excited about our conference and awards ceremony. The Mary Lou Bingham Lifetime Achievement Award honors a special individual and their work for ALRID. This person may have worked to improve ALRID, may have been a mentor teaching and training new interpreters, or perhaps may have really been extremely involved and worked hard for ALRID. This person may be serving now or as is a past board member. I know you may know someone that meets the criteria. For more information on how to make a nomination, see the flyer posted and also don't forget to register for the conference and we will see you there!
